Is simply not true. K-Mart purchased Sears in 2004 and then changed the name of the combined company to Sears Holdings. This was a fun time for Eddie Lampert watching....

Its complicated, Eddie Lampert took money from Sears to let Kmart purchase Sears (I have been working for sears from 2000). In the end he basically merged the 2 companies together with the Stock symbol of SHLD
