Having a bit of a quarter life crisis?

Ok, don't panic!

I am 21 and half way through a University Course, I don't even think I like! And still dont know!

Have you done any work experience or voluntary work? As this is often a good way to discover what you like or are good at? If not maybe try some as sometimes its the case that you wont know what you want to do unless you try lots of things!? :) If you maybe try work experience or voluntary work in all the things you like you will discover what could work for you as a career?

But most importantly don't rush your decision or you'll end up like me doing something you don't want to for the sake of doing something! :/

:) x

For me, life happens outside of work. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling, and being outdoors. I have projects that I work on, and I enjoy answering questions on Yahoo Answers.

That's why I just went to business school and got a solid corporate job that pays decently. I don't have to stress out about work, and while my job is really boring, it isn't the focus of my life.

Previously I owned a music recording studio. I had a great passion for making music and loved my job. However I was so passionate about my job that it began to consume me. I was working 75 hours a week and as a sole proprietor, I could never escape. People would call me at all hours of the day. My life was my business. It was great fun for a little while, but eventually I realized how important other things in life really were to me.

If you are a career oriented person and you really have a passion for a certain type of job, then find out what you need to do to get there and go for it! You might even want to start your own business.

However if you really don't care about your job and you just want to live your life, then get a high paying job in a high demand field that isn't too stressful such as accounting, computer programming, pharmacy, engineering, and many of the other jobs that tend to make the "Top 10 Best Jobs" lists when you do an internet search. Pick a degree and study hard. Get an internship, then get the job. That way you can focus on your life outside of work. Of course if you get ambitious you can always start your own business or pursue something else, but at least you will have something solid to fall back on.

That's my opinion anyway. Good luck!

It was probably a good move to take time off. A lot of graduates come out with some sort of hazy, half-baked idea of what they want to do as a job.

If you are motivated enough, pretty much any job is possible.

Decide if you are willing to relocate, what you need your income level to be, and if you would be happy with these factors in a worst case scenario.

Look at job functions rather than titles. This will give you a better idea of what someone actually does. It is unlikely to find a job that includes every interest you have, it is a job, not a hobby. That's what having a life outside of work is about.

What are people doing around you that you like the look of. You're still reasonably young enough to be able to get on a skilled apprenticeship [spark; plumber; carpenter, etc]?, go to university [With A Career In Mind]; become a graduate nurse?, join the professional army [or the non-professional army, and become a security guard in a shopping centre or a building site]?

Use your head when you make your initial choice - remember to think 5-years down the line

EVERY single job has it's pros and cons, every last one of them, but you might find one job where you can better handle the negatives, when you compare it to the cons of some other job.

Finding that out is part of your journey as an adult.

[They should really have told you this at school].

Given that there is currently a lot of flooding down in England [I would expect this to happen more regularly in future], could you find something related where you could make money?

Become a travel agent and travel for free with your own tickets.

I am almost 20 years old. I have gone back to college to do a-levels (so i'm doing my AS levels at the minute) because I dropped out of my AS levels 2 years ago because of lack of direction.

I was thinking about what job I want to pursue.... I got nothin'!! I have no idea. How am I supposed to prepare myself for the future now if I don't have any idea what I want to do with my current situation???

I feel like I need to know what I want to do to motivate myself and to have some guidance.

I like art, media, travelling, writing and animals but what sort of career can I make out of this? I do not know.

So anyway, here is my question: how do I actually figure out what I want to do? What is life? Haha.
