If you want the firm to sponser you for them to hold your licenses you are going to have to play their game and play by their rules, whether you think it's a waste of time or not.
You will have to find a firm that doesn't want you to get educated or at the east try to better yourself.
You may think a degree is a waste of time, but most people in this industry do not agree with you
