How can I research my old stock certificate?

On the front of the certificate is the name of the transfer agent, call them

If the transfer agent no longer exist, call the company

All operations sections of a brokerage firm have a book titled "Obsolete Securirties" this will tell you brokerage firm where the company stands

If the company no longer exist, go to a hobby shop, buy yourself a picture frame and hang the certificate some where to remind you not to buy anything unless you know what you're doing

If the certificate is not in your name, the certificate has no value to you since any value would belong to the registered owner or their estate. A certificate does not give the holder of the certificate any value,. it only provides proof that you have the certificate..

It won't have any value. It is more than likely a private company.

Try Googling the full name plus terms like "changed name", "administration","liquidation" etc.

Otherwise check locally, trade bodies etc.

Call a stock broker.

The company has most likely changed names (this seems to be my biggest obstacle). Its a citrus company in Florida from the early 1900's.

How can I start this process?

How would I check to see if the stock certificate is still valuable?
