Investment question! Help with margins?

you must not dip below 60% equity. You have put in 38000 and borrowed 12000 at this point.

equity % = your equity/total account value

equiyt % = 38000 / 50000

Equity % = 76%

what does the denominator need to be in order for your equity % to be equal to 60% (or .6)

.6 = 38000/ x

.6x = 38000

x = 63333.33 (total account value)

63333.33 - 38000 = 25333.33 total from the firm

you have already borrowed 12000 so

25333.33 - 12000 = $13333.33 more that you can borrow.

this is assuming the securities have not gone up or down in value.

Thank you so much! This really helps
