A better way to go would be to save pre-1964 american dollar, half dollar, quarter, and dime coins since they all contain 90-95% silver. These coins do currently have pretty good value.
Each one has just over 2 cents in copper. Just remember that not all 1982 cents are copper. 1982 was a transition year. Copper cents weigh 3.1 grams and zinc 2.5 grams. I put every one I find aside. How long does it take a bank to double your money?
I've been hoarding on pre-1983 pennies, but now I wonder, is it really worth it. They say the pennies from 1982 and older have 95% copper, but newer ones have 97.5% nickel, zinc, etc. Though it is illegal to melt them since 2008, it might change others say cus the copper shortage. Is it worth my time and money?
