Selling a stock at market level?

In order to cover a short position, you want to buy to cover, not sell.

Differentiate between after-hours trading and normal market hours. Most brokers will not allow market orders in after-hours trading. You must enter a limit order. The limit price you enter can be whatever you want. The price you will get will be the Asking price or higher. Also, there is a separate setting to designate after-hours trade, rather than entering the order for the next market open. It should be on the same drop-down window as the limit, depending on the broker and trading platform. Why haven't you already called your broker?

When I want out right now, but don't want to enter a market order, I always give them a nickel or a dime above the Ask with a limit order.

So I shorted a stock at 29.05 (AAN) on Friday and the stock fell to 28.32. My P&L showed me at +50$ (I have not sold the stock yet). However when I woke up Saturday it showed a P&L +159.20$. I decided to click on the stock and it says the price is 27.05 however it shows the stock as closing at 28.32.

1: generally when I sell a stock I just select market price and it automatically fills in the limit price for me and sells on its own. However now when I try to sell the stock it's asking for a limit price. I don't know what limit price to put in, do I put in 28.32 or 27.05?

2: What is the actual price of the stock per share? Why is it telling me it's 27.05 when it shows it closing at 28.32?

Thank-you

I know it's a noob question.
