I WISH TO KNOW THE AVERAGE VALUE OF THE S&P500 INDEX DURING THE YR 2000.

PLEASE HELP

Go to Wolframalpha and type in price of S&P 500 2000. I just did it and it gives you what you want

Go to Yahoo Finance

http://finance.yahoo.com/

click on S&P 500

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=^gspc

On the left sidebar, click on Historical Prices

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=^GSPC+Hi...

At the bottom of the screen, click on Download to Spreadsheet.

Now use Excel to calculate the average value for the year.

Look up at the top of the screen where it says "finance". Click on that.
