What is ethical investing?

What do you think is ethical investing? I am often wondering about the offered ethical investment forms. What do you think about it?

Investing in things that cause no harm to people.

You would exclude things like alcohol, tobacco and

the arms industry. Check out Amana investments

for some good ethical mutual funds.

Ethical investing, or socially responsible investing, is simply pursuing profitable investment strategies that are guided by an ethical and moral framework. Notice that there is no strict criteria of investments that are ethical or unethical.

Ethical investing is just making sure that your financial and moral interests are aligned, so don't worry about anyone else's ethics. For example, you may not have a problem with alcohol retailers or casino operators, but steer clear of tobacco companies.

I can understand the desire to be an ethical investor, but handguns, booze and nuclear reactors can be used both ethically and unethically.

When it comes to kitchen flatware, even a steak knife can be used unethically. Where do you draw the line?
