Buy a lot of share(s) is just that. You buy a lot of shares.

Acquisition is to buy the whole company or at least a controlling interest (really the former).

There are various rules about declaring a notifiable interest and also certain percentage purchase results in the buyer having to make a formal offer to the rest of the shareholders (30% I think) although in certain circumstances this may be avoided (whitewash?). The notifiable interest declaration is fairly small: 3% in UK then as each whole percentage is breached (up or down)
