Derivatives market?

Derivatives are bets on the future and the further into the future you go the more likely you are to lose - statistical probability.

You don't hear about the big winners as there are very few of them. The only people that win are the traders who place the bets and charge a fee for doing so. You won't stop people betting but as with all betting you can guarantee the Casino is the one that wins.

What do you mean we don't hear about big winners? Ever heard of people like George Soros and Paul Tudor Jones? Most people who are big winners don't make huge amounts of money in 1 fling (as both of these guys have) as the huge losses are risk management failures and people making huge amounts of money don't position themselves for a positive risk management failure.

The notion that very few make lots of money on derivatives is laughable. Drive through my town and we are one $25M mansion after another built on derivatives success. Me and my clients have netted at least $1B on derivatives.

I've studied derivatives and have heard of some huge failures by some people losing millions, even billions.

Where does that money go? Why don't we hear about the huge winners in the derivatives market?
