Gold is not measured in carats. Purity of gold is measured in karat. 24 k gold is pure gold so 18k is 75% pure. Gold is priced by weight. That ring minus the stones probably weighs no more than seven grams. Let's say it does. 7g X .75 purity equals 5.25 grams of pure gold. There are 31.1 grams in one Troy ounce, the standard pricing mechanism for precious metals.
Do the math and you'll see that 5.25 grams is .168 Troy ounces. The market price of gold right now is about $1,300 a Troy ounce. Again, do the math, and you'll see that an 18k piece that weighs 7 grams has $218 worth of pure gold. The stones are worth another $200 at the most.
So, you can see what most people already know - commercial jewelry is sold at a very high markup over cost of materials. That's why you almost always lose money on jewelry.
Should you buy it? If you like it and plan on keeping it forever and you can afford it, yes.
