Back in the age of the dinosaurs (before computerized stock trading), stock brokers sold shares in groups of 100 shares, and charged a higher commission ($100) for selling "odd-lot" shares.
It's totally a call by the company's board of directors. There is no standard rule.
Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK-A) closed at $190,535 per share today. Apple Inc. (AAPL) at $607.27 is soon splitting 7:1 after many years of growth.
I look at Canadian Pacific (tiker CP) and after they hired Hunter Harrsion 2 years ago, their stock went from $60.00 to now $164.73. I think its remarkable to see something like that. I ask this question becuase he said hes not close to done changing that rairoad comapny around.. I could see it reaching $200 by the end of the year. Wouldnt they want new investors to invest and it being this high a little too much for them? What and why does it take it to split? sorry new to this and all.
Thanks guys!
