Forever.
(All a "stock split" really achieves is adjusting the number of shares AND their price to lower (or raise, in the case of a reverse split) the price-per-share....it is a largely cosmetic exercise, and changes NOTHING about the value of the underlying corporation.....if I "split" a dollar bill into twenty nickels, it's still just a dollar!)
There are three main reasons a company might choose to split...
1- To lower the price per share (to attract more investors who think the price-per-share actually matters)
2- To create media coverage
3- In the case of a reverse split, to raise the effective price-per-share to qualify to be listed on a different exchange
It really does not "mean" anything of any significance...
The reason Apple has split is to bring the price-per-share down to a level where people who like Apple products might be enticed into becoming shareholders...
Stock splits are permanent unless additional future splits are approved.
stock splits are permanent, until the next stock split.
For example the one from AAPL right now
