Although interest rates might be going up which could affect the REITs stock price negatively. It still would be a great investment for the longer term (you're young) and there's some I know that are cheap and pay almost 12% annually...If you invested that $33,000, into the particular one I'm thinking of, you could be getting passive income of roughly $910 a quarter, which is about 303.33 a month of passive income you don't have to work for. Since you can't work, that would be a significant help to you.
Here's a few you could look into:
Chimera Investment Corporation (NYSE:CIM)
Annaly Capital Management, Inc. (NYSE:NLY)
That is just a suggestion.
Your note is clear and concise - your brain still works. It seems you can work.
And if your settlement is remotely related to your medical bills, you hardly had any.
$33000 is not enough of a landfall that you can actually live off it for very long. For most people who live frugally, it wouldn't last a year or two. And you certainly aren't going to earn enough as an investment for it to count much. At most you are looking at a couple of thousand a year.
Add'l Info: I didn't say you weren't disabled. I said that you can work. And there is nothing in your note that appears that you can't work. There are many paralyzed people that have jobs. Unless the next portions of the settlement are significantly bigger than this one and you don't want to live in poverty forever, you are going to need to figure out what you can do.
I am receiving 33,000 next month from a settlement. I was in a car accident where a drunk driver hit me and made it so I can no longer work. I want to use that money so that I can have some sort of income and I won't have to depend on the government for the rest of my life. I am only 22 so I am not familiar with the world of stocks, and bonds, or real estate. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to do or how to invest it?
