How to tell if a Rolex is real? I've taken off the band but did not see a serial number on either side, I cant find

That is a sure sign of a fake. Rolex started engraving serial numbers back around 1960.

A fake will seldom have a scratch. A fake does not last long enough to acquire scratches.

You can shake it. Listen for a metal on metal scraping sound that is typical of a fake.

Take it into the dark. The hands glow green on a fake. The green fades after about 30 min.

It it has a bezel, turn the bezel. It if clicks like a ratchet, then the watch is fake.

Use a toxic metal test kit. Most takes test positive for toxic metal.

YOU CAN NOT TELL BY LOOKING FOR A SO CALLED "SWEEPING SECOND HAND" OR A "FLOATING SECOND HAND". Anyone who tells you to look for that knows nothing about watches.

You cannot tell by looking for the crown logo engraved on the glass.

You cannot tell by the weight.

btw: A Rolex has a "bracelet" or a "strap". Rolex never offered a "band".

Price. Surely a fake will be priced at a deep discount to an original.

you take it to a jewelry store they will tell you

everything can be faked but they know what to look for
