Silver Bullion Deal?

67 pounds is about $112 US, so you are paying $1.12 per gram of silver with a melt value of 70 cents a gram. Yes, you are being ripped off.

I have a question for you - if you bought silver bullion I was selling on eBay - I'm in the US - you would probably be paying no more than a 15% premium to the 'melt' value of the silver. Does eBay. uk get involved in charging buyers inside the UK sales taxes and VAT taxes? Because I don't collect them.

If you don't pay any taxes on eBay purchases from outside the UK, you might want to consider that and go for US silver Eagle bullion coins (stay away from the proofs and collector issues), Maple Leafs from Canada, Kookaburras from Australia.

If you paid 80 cents per gram, even 85 cents, with no tax, the shipping isn't going to come close to bringing the total to $1.12 a gram.

Even if you pay a little more for the silver itself than with those UK-based places other answers linked to, if you can avoid the taxes, that's the way to go, bullion on eBay from outside the UK.

It seems like a good deal. It's actually lower than Baird and Co are charging on their own site. That makes me wonder - I've always found B&C to be the cheapest place to buy silver (there is a local shop here in Glasgow). Please make sure you check out the reputation of your website before parting with your cash.

btw: Silver is cheaper than £14 a troy ounce! - it's only £13.12 per toz !

Since the government expect you to give them 20% in VAT, I'd personally advise that you invest in gold. Every penny of your investment goes towards buying gold (not into throwing money away in an unrecoverable tax)

You can get a one-tenth of an ounce Britannia coin at around £96.25 - I realise that is almost £30 more than what you mention above, but in the UK, you don't pay tax on gold, while you do on all other precious metals.

Whether you're buying silver or gold, commissions on smaller weights are ridiculous. Silver costs £0.42 per gram - so 100g should cost £42 - the seller adds in their own commission, then they hit you with 20% VAT! You're paying £42 PLUS commission and VAT of £25

@curtisports2

Be aware that buying silver outside the European Union attracts import tax. PLUS handling AND you cannot escape paying VAT.

We used to be able to buy PMs from the channel islands tax free, but that loop-hole was sealed back in (I think) 2010.

first of all, you should read this web page

http://silverprice.org/buy-silver/2008/0...

the rules are quite different than buying in North America.

This company seems to be a reputable British source of precious metal purchases

http://atkinsonsbullion.com/silver-coins

here is your choice

http://www.goldline.co.uk/silver-coins.p...

The problem with the company you were looking at is that they require a minimum quantity....25 coins - 1 oz /coin or 2 bars - 100oz bars

On the other hand, my find - Atkinson - has no minimum purchase and free delivery within the UK.

Both companies have comparable prices on the 2 bar price but I like how Atkinson lays out the Vat so you can see the total.

I think you should consider 1 oz coins rather than 100 gm bars....with Atkinson you are not saddled with a 25 coin minimum and roughly 3 coins = 100gms

The Canadian Maple Leaf coin is a solid coin and pretty close to the spot price....with coins and bars you can be paying for the mint stamp.

You cannot get around the VAT and taxes....I would be very careful about buying from a company that offered to to this as they are dodgey doing this so I would expect a scam....and stick to quality silver...for example Philippine silver dollars are not quality.

Hope this helps

Silver in the USA right now is about $23 an ounce. spot price. ;)

that's too much. 50 pence/ gram should be your absolute limit. you should be able to do even better.

Ive found a website with baird and co bullions on it, they are charging 67 quid per 100 grams of .999 pure minted silverwhich includes shipping, tax and vat, is that a good price?, people say "silver is only 14 quid an ounce" so when you add up to 100 grams im getting ripped off but thats the price before the company adds tax or vat? And from my research in england there is no were that does it without tax or vat? Anyone understand what i mean? Am i fetting a good deal?
