There's no reason you can't have the nice house and car you want, but it depends on your timeframe.
Currently in my 2nd year at Dental School, 2 more years till I graduate and start my residency. After talking to my parents (now I'm home for the Super Bowl) they wanted to look over my loans and talk money and such, especially after my graduation. I told them I will be making aprox. $140,000 salary working for a private practice my current mentor owns. I only have about $85,000 in student loans and college debt from ALL 8 years of schooling. I'm studying for my D.M.D. & I'll specialize in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.
Projections:
~ $140K for 5 years, till I'm 31.
~ Afterwards I'll open my own practice or have joint-ownership/partnership in the practice I've been working at. Salary est. $215K-$300k.
Note:
I'll be able to live with relatives to cut housing costs for however long I wish. I also am using one of my Grandmother's Audis' for transportation and have unlimited access to it.
Debts:
$85K Student Loans
Okay, I must admit I'm clueless when it comes to the financial sides of things. I'm a biology major, not an economics whiz. So please, give me some insight on how to properly budget my life.
Wants:
- Home aprox. 1-1.2 M in cost
- (used) Mercedes for myself aprox. $40k
With my projected salaries, will I be able to get what I want? I've always wanted a beautiful home and a nice car that I actually own.
