The industry has been down in the dumps since the Japan disaster. Not sure I see any signs of that turning around quickly.
There are few pure play uranium companies. Cameco (CCJ) is a Canadian mining company with a US listing. Read the last few annual reports to see some of the issues. Ex: mine flooding.
Usec (USU) is building a state-of-the-art centrifuge. It has also been through bankruptcy and a 1 for 25 reverse split. Not for the faint of heart.
You could get some diversification through a uranium ETF like URA. Note that Cameco is over 23% of assets, so not that diversified. Mostly mining stocks in Canada and Australia.
Your IRA account is a better place for safe stocks that pay dividends rather than a speculation like uranium stocks. If you lose, you can't even use it as a tax loss.
I'm thinking of putting a Uranium stock in my IRA. Any thoughts on the industry or certain miners?
