What are Indices used for forecasting?

Indices such as VIX are used, to to a certain extent, forecast the market trends and investor expectations. Are there any similar indices?

I think what you are looking for is an indicator, not an index. There are literally thousands of indicators, all used for the same purpose, to try and get an edge at entry of a position, but not one has "forecasting" ability. We can get projections and extensions from Fibonacci analysis or Elliot Wave or other ways, but that has nothing whatsoever to do with "forecasting," because projections are in both directions.

What is your time frame?

Fundamental or technical analysis?

You are naive, focusing on conjecture and opinion.

There is no single indicator or book or Answer or Secret that will make you rich or foretell the future. Those looking for the magic indicator will find that any form of analysis is too much work. You are looking for several things to line up, not one single "projection."

Predicting the future is not only pointless, it's counterproductive. The future cannot be "known."

That's not what we do. We minimize risk and lower cost basis and use good money management techniques, within a defined time frame according to a written trade plan. We try to improve our probability of success in many ways, but we don't "predict" anything. We have a backup plan for "anything."

VIX is an index representing volatility. An index doesn't forecast anything, it just expresses current situation, usually of several items, as one manageable figure. Of course indices usually have index futures which indicate where people think the index will be in the future.
