In the USA the best way to prepare for becoming a Stock Broker is to learn how to sell. Without customers, a stock broker earns little to nothing. A stock broker solicits customers using (hopefully) good sales techniques.
The value of stocks is determined (by many) by the balance sheet and an understanding of the market place, future business prospects & the macro economic conditions. A business finance degree can be helpful. Many stock brokers have no such education and many times little skill in "mathematics". You can be very successful without a good understanding of the "mathematics". It's unlikely you'd make any type of living without sales skills.
If you are in UK you can't become a stockbroker! A stockbroker is a member of the stock exchange and there are only corporate members now. You could work for a stockbroker and there are varied positions. Such as back office, institutional sales, private client broking etc. etc.
Best bet is probably to contact the trade association. In UK this is the CISI (Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.
I'd like to know the steps needed. Also are there any books that could help? I would also like to know the math used in stocks so I can better myself when I try to become one.
