They are only blank for companies which HAVE no earnings, so a "ratio" between their price and their earnings would be "infinity"...
Good general rule-of-thumb? Don't waste your money on such stocks...
They may be losing money so negative p/e which you can't have!
it means they are off the scale. they have no earnings. still in the hole.
