Prior to airplanes and nuclear bombs, Switzerland's mountains provided a secure homeland. Switzerland's banking system was the most secure in the world.
Today, Switzerland's appeal is more about "tradition" rather than "reality"
Switzerland is not part of the EU, and has a strong tradition of keeping strict secrecy about the ownership of bank accounts within Switzerland. They have "numbered accounts" that don't identify the owner's name. Rich people and corrupt world leaders want to keep their riches in a Swiss Bank account because the taxing authorities in the US and Europe would love to find out who is not declaring their bank account balances/income held in Switzerland. Banking is an important industry in Switzerland and there's no internal pressure to change their banking laws.
Why is Switzerland a financial safe haven when the military is not that strong. Why do people trust putting their money in this country? Is there a History to this?
