Are John Hancock 401K's any good?

No, you can't. You are stuck with the 401k your

company offers. If there is no matching amount,

a better option would be to invest in a Roth IRA

using a mutual fund company and stop investing

in the 401k.

It depends on how many internally Hancock managed funds are in the investment options line up. You may want to investigate their fee structure and also see how well they perform against their peers. You may want to check to see if those line up of funds perform better than 75 percent of their peers. Also with internally managed funds, third party review by Morningstar may not be available. It is often recommended that the funds should have a minimum 3 Star Morningstar rating over 1, 3, 5, and 10 years.

Are they any good?? That depends on the funds you have in your plan. If the loads are waived, probably can be lived with.

401k's can not be moved as long as you stay with your employer. You're no longer employed there - yes you can move it (to an IRA, or to your new employer's plan).

My company goes through John Hancock and was wondering if anyone here has experience with them. Can you move the money to a new 401K after you invest it with John Hancock? Any penalties for moving it?
