I do not know about banks but I invest into japan economy through a japan etf. Most of Japan investments are 60% below their 1989 peak like the Nikkel 225

I'm a Canadian citizen who lives in Japan. I have no intentions of returning to Canada at the moment, but there's always the possibility that I'll return.
Anyway, it seems that my Canadian bank will penalize me for investing as a non-resident. On the other hand, Japanese banks seem to not have any options for saving or investing at a higher interest rate than the norm.
I don't have a lot of money, but I'm just interested in putting aside a million yen at some point, not touching it.
