I would expect your brothers to have moved out of your house by 2024, don't you? As for your mother, as part owner of the property, she'd be difficult to shift. Don't have a clue what the coucil or Local Housing Associations are like round your way, but she might be considered as making herself homeless.
Given that you have shared this property for 25 years, you'd probably get the maximum discount of 70%, meaning you'd only have to pay 30% of the property's value. However a condition of sale is that you remain resident for 10 years. The right to buy stops in 2017 - not sure if it's the start or end of 2017, but you can do some research to deternine this for yourself.
So I have been a council tenant with my mum for the last 25 years. I have recently become a mum and my own mother has suggested I buy the council house under the Right to Buy scheme with my partner. It makes a lot of financial sense...and it WAS my own mum who is encouraging me to look into it.
However, I was wondering if my mother would then be re-housed?? - like would she be a proirity - because technically it is not her property anymore and she is still on the council list and has my teenage brothers to care for.
its a bit of a cold question but I dont want to go through with it if I am going to be living with my whole family for god knows how long.
thanks in advance....
