The general rule of thumb is it takes about 7 years to double, if in the stock market. 3) if you don't need the money, invest in a few growth stock funds or ETFs and let it ride. 4) based on the rule of 7, you'll have well over $1.2 million by the time you retire.

Consider what Matthew recommended. If you want to be careful, put the money into a money market account with a mutual fund company. Then spend some time learning about investing and mutual funds. Take the time to make informed decisions. Don't rush to "double it" or you'll lose a large chunk.
