Investing question?

I don't have an ameritrade account...but mine separates cash available for use vs investment.

So if I put 10,000 in and invest 9,500 after all trading fees are taken into account....

My investment portfolio is worth 9,500- fees...andy cash balance is $500.

Maybe there is an annual fee..maybe you made a trade that you had to pay a comission on...they let you go ahead and trade but Now you gotta put dome money into to cover fee.

Your cash balance is a separate amount from the value of your investments. If your investments have increased in value and you sell them it will increase the amount of your cash balance in your TD Ameritrade account. If you still are wondering about this then you can call customer service to ask them to explain it to you.

In my TD Ameritrade account, one section says "cash balance" and has the number -$102. But when I look at my stocks, i have gained almost 5% on all my investments except for one which i lost 0.5%. Why is my cash balance -$102 when I have gained money?
