SYMBOL= NKE
BUY PRICE= 74.77 (current at this value. this is the price per stock. it changes each day as more or less people invest in the company)
# OF SHARES= 1,000 (this is the # of stocks you wish to buy when you make a purchase. for instance, if you purchase 1,000 shares, that would cost 1,000*74.77 = $74,770 ... this would leave you with a little over $900,000 left of your 1 million)
DATE OF PURCHASE= the date you want to purchase the stocks on
CLOSE PRICE= at the end of the day, the final price of the stock (in this instance, did it go up or down from the buy price of 74.77). perhaps in a week from now, the end of day close price will be 78.77 and you will have gained $4 per each share
GAIN OR LOSS= how much you gained or lost. so if you bought 1,000 shares at 74.77 and sold 1,000 shares at 78.77, you gained $4 per share or $4,000 total. Your Gain would be $4,000. You can lose money too tho if the cost per share goes down at the time you sell
So pretty much we have have follow 10 stocks in the S&P 500. We are given $1,000,000 of fictitious money to allocate.
I will use yahoo finance.
We have to use excel and input the data. The categories are below.
NAME OF STOCK=
SYMBOL=
BUY PRICE=
# OF SHARES=
DATE OF PURCHASE=
CLOSE PRICE=
GAIN OR LOSS=
Now my problem is I don't understand what these mean, with the exception of Name of stock and symbol.

can someone explain what each of these categories mean and how to find them? Please use Nike as an example.
Thank You
