Question about "market caps"........?

You have the wrong understanding about what market capitalization is. It's not based on a company's potential worth, compared to other companies.

It's literally just shares outstanding x price. Just shows how much is being held by investors (including themselves, if they have positions).

mc = shares outstanding x whatever the stock price happens to be.

SRPT's lead drug, Eteplirsen, not currently approved yet, represents a potential $800 million opportunity.....

(Though the company has some early stage developments, Eteplirsen is their only advanced stage development and they have no other products)

So I look up its stock quote on google finance and sure enough, the market cap listed is $800 million.

Now I look up another stock, OPK.

The market cap listed is $3.72 billion.

That doesn't sound right to me because......I know their lead drug, Rayaldy, represents a $12 billion opportunity.

Plus they have a lot of other late-stage products that represent billions as well.

That $3.72 billion number sounds low.....

Maybe that number is referring to products that are already approved?

But Eteplirsen's not approved, so why was Eteplirsen included in Ssrepta's market cap?
