No you do not need to have a margin account.

No you do not sell it to the writer, possibly the writer of you contract may not be short the contract. Just enter your order with your brokerage firm, they can handle it for you.

But if you exercise your put which means your going to sell the stock at 95 you will have to buy back the stock (since your account will have a short position in the stock). If you buy the stock immediately after excercising the option you'll be ok.

But why not just sell the put

you can exercise it if you actually own the shares. if you dont have a margin accoount, then I can assume you do indeed own the shares. you can also just sell the put.

If you have a put option with a strike of $95 and its now 80. Do I get to sell it to the writer of the option for $95 right now? It's not expired. Do i need a certain account for this?
