Another source of information on IRA's

An IRA is a retirement account that has special tax savings for your money. The type and degree of savings depends on your situation and the kind of IRA account you open. There are two main types of IRAs a Traditional and a Roth. Traditional IRAs offer you the chance to deduct contributions to your IRA from your income tax now in exchange for taxes on distributions after your retire. While in a traditional IRA taxes on interest and dividends is differed until you withdrawal the money. This is especially good when you consider that your income tax rate is likely to be lower when you retire as people tend to earn less money.

Roth IRAs work a little differently as you may NOT deduct your contributions from your taxes now, but in exchange you are not taxed on any of it when you retire and receive distributions. Interest and dividend payment revived in a Roth IRA are never taxed.

IRAs can be set up with banks, brokers or other financial institutions and can hold stocks, bonds, CD, Mutual Funds, ETFs and more. They have a great degree of flexibility, yet there are penalties for early withdraw of your money.

There are many nuances, but that is the gist of it. Check out my website designed to educate people on the subject: http://www.contributeira.com
