You bought a stock three months ago for $43.78 per share.... What is the APR and EAR of the investment?

I believe for the problem you described, the APR and EAR are the same.

EAR = "Effective Annual Rate". Otherwise known as the simple interest rate.

Starting Price*(1 + EAR) = Current Price

43.78*(1+EAR) = 47.98

EAR = .0959 = 9.59%

APR = "Annual Percentage Rate". This is the interest rate per payment period. Since you did not specify a payment period I can only guess. If payment period is 1 year then the APR = EAR. If payment period is 1 month... then the math gets harder.

When you've made 9.6% in 3 months. SELL, SELL, SELL.

You bought a stock three months ago for $43.78 per share. The stock paid no dividends. The current share price is $47.98

What is the APR of your investment?

What is the EAR of your investment?
