You can't have characters without knowing what they're doing.
The are six major areas of a brokerage firm and here are some of the functions in each
1.ADMINISTRATION which consist of most of upper management including accounting, legal, compliance, reseasrch; Stock Record; Exchange & Association Memberships; customer service
2- Sales this includes both retail and institutional sales; on-line services, full service services; Retirement Plans;
3- TRADING which includes order entry for both retail and institutional clients, firm positions, in-house and floor operations; listed order entry, OTC order entry, equity trading for firm account; fixed income trading; order routing; Mutual Fund;
4- OPERTIONS - Margin department activity, Options activity; Re-Org; Dividends; Transfers; FAILS; Possession & Control; P&S; Stock Loan/borrow;
5-SYSTEMS - file maintenance; Security master; disaster recovery' Tele-com; Programming; PC LAN; Firewall control; system accesses and entiltments

You have a lot more studying and research to do before you can wirte any thing about a brokerage firm and you're not going to get that much here on Y.A.
I am doing research for a screenplay on a stock brokerage firm. I have been toying around with characters and ideas for a while and I want to start writing but I don't know much about stock. I want it to be set in a brokerage firm but I don't want all the characters to be brokers. Things I am looking for:
What other jobs do people that work for a brokerage firm have? ( News correspondent, traders, managers, customer service?) What are the daily operations of a firm? Do the brokers interact with clients in the firms? A general idea of the stock market( I have been researching this myself but any info would help) How the firm makes money. How the brokers and only staff make money.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated I wish I could sit down and talk to someone but I really don't know anyone in this business...I think that's why it intrigues me so much. Any way thanks in advance.
