How much does it cost to cash in a stock?

Do you have the Stock Certificates? Or are they in "book form" in a Brokerage Account somewhere?

It will cost you a commission (probably about $50) to sell them and withdraw the cash, (which will be about $1,000)...

If you are smart enough just to "pretend they don't exist" and find the money you think you need somewhere else, in 20 years, those shares will be worth somewhere between $8,200 & $20,400...

You will need to take it to a stockbroker. Expect to pay $50 to $75 commission. If you are willing to hold it for awhile, you could open a scottrade.com account with the stock. Once the account is going, you can sell the stock and your account will then hold cash. The commission is only $7. You can take some money out of the account as soon as the trade goes through (a few days after you place it) but after a couple of months you can close out the account if you don't want it and get all the cash.

Take your stock certificate to any investment banking firm such as Morgan Stanley and they will cash it in for a small brokerage fee. You are looking at about $50 on average.

My grandma bought me a stock at walmart several years ago. there is 14 shares so i figured it up to be worth about $1200. i am in need of the money right now. how do i go about cashing it and how much does it cost?? Also how long does it take to recieve the money? i am new to all this stock stuff..any advice would be helpful.
