Basically, the way to make money in the stock market is to buy stocks of companies that are at a price that represents a good value historically and subsequently sell them when they are priced much higher and are no longer a good value historically. You also make money when the company pays dividends while you hold the stock. You must also learn that the price of any stock, even a good valued stock, does not trend straight up in price -- it fluctuates up and down, especially in the short term. So even though you are almost in last place now, if you have chosen better investments than your classmates, you may do better than them in the long run.
Ehm..
You should try with Penny Stocks Trading (you can find more info here: http://pennystocks.toptips.org)
Penny stocks, also known as cent stocks in some countries, are common shares of small public companies that trade at low prices per share.
I've been subscribing to this PennyStock web site for about a year now and have loved the objective advice they give. He really does look for quality stocks and I've made some pretty nice profits on a lot of his suggestions. Being still fairly new to investing I have been dabbling a lot in penny stocks to try and grow my account. I may not have a big account, but it's a lot bigger than it was a year ago. On just one of Nathan's picks this year I managed to make my investment back ten-fold! Be careful! Penny stocks are notoriously risky but if you follow the right method the risk is almost 0. I suggest to invest only little money first and then reinvest the profits. This is the site I'm using: http://pennystocks.toptips.org
For these games you usually have to go with short term big potential gainers. The problem is, the overall stock market may be in for a rough next 4-6 weeks so you have to be careful.
Two chancy plays would be Netflix and Tesla. Both are high fliers that have dipped lately and you may get a bounce - or they may go down further.
A good speculative play would be FMC. They are doing a break up of some sort, and that often makes the stock go up. Google is also another good one, since they are in the midst of a split and that may cause a pop.
Honestly, two options I would consider are buying a bond ETF or short selling. Your game rules may not allow short selling, which is selling stock you don't own in hopes that it will go down, then buying it after it goes down. If indeed the market is looking at a correction in the next month or two, you would do very well short selling. But another, easier way would be to buy only a bond ETF like symbol BND. That basically puts your money in a holding pattern - you won't make much but if everyone else is losing money because they are fully invested, you would come out ahead.
How does Trading Work? I can say you that take a look at this site ( http://forexsignal.kyma.info ) may be it can help you. It 's one of the best course about trading. It seems like Trading is almost totally based on Macro-economics. It also strikes me that since there are not nearly as many currencies as there are stocks/bonds/derivatives etc etc, there must be a large number of market players in each currency bracket. So logically, currencies must be very liquid true? Also, what is the risk of Currency trading, high or low? When I read the business section every day I notice that the Canadian loonie moves hardly a tenth of a cent on a regular basis (in comparison to the US dollar). So it seems like theres very little room for growth in currencies unless you leverage. On that note, whats the maximum leverage permitted for forex trading. I know in stocks its x2, and in derivatives its x10. Anyway the only way to know how to start a profitable buisness is by following some methods like the one that I suggested.
If you are in a game to win then remember that 2nd place is first loser. I should note that I gave a thumbs up to Mr Acquire because he is right. He is very right.
You need to buy a stock or three that is likely to be taken over in the next month. Hopefully that will pan out and get you the short term gains you need. You should look at stocks with a high Beta - that go up and down a lot.
And I am going to repeat those strategies are good for a game but lousy in real life.
Take a look at my source, lots of videos there giving you tips to trade the stock market, really educational.
With these videos you should be able to analyse what chart is going to be the most profitable and therefore the best stock to trade.
