Is 20 ,000 $ a year a good income?

I'm surprised you can even afford a small apartment on $20K per year. That is hovering near the poverty line, even for a single person. After taxes, you are looking at $1,500 per month at the very most. Even a crappy apartment would cost $600 to $800 per month, and budget experts say housing should only be 25% to 33% of your total income, you would be over that even at $600 rent. Not to mention a car (gas alone will be $200 per month if you drive any amount and insurance is at least $100 a month for a 20 year old), food and everything else.

let's look at the numbers. if you make 20k a year before taxes, that's 16k a year after taxes, which is $1333 a month.

10% goes to long-term (retirement) savings: $133.30 a month.

15% goes to debt repayment/emergency fund: $199.95 a month goes into a regular savings account until you have at least 6 times your monthly income saved up as an emergency fund: $7 998.

35% goes to housing (rent, mortgage, bills, utilities, insurances, etc.): All-inclusive, you can afford under $466.55 a month, ideally less than that so that you can put left-overs into another savings account for repairs and household needs.

15% goes to transportation (gas, insurance, repairs, bus): $199.95 a month; any money not used here goes towards the other savings accounts or towards your savings projects (future car, house, vacation, etc.).

25% goes to life (food, entertainment, clothing, gifts, travel, medical, wants, phone, internet, cable, other): $333.25 a month, or $83.31 a week.

Can you see now why most people say "considering you don't have college, it's decent". It's great for a 20 year old, but it won't stay that way forever, so you need to look at advancement opportunities: what are they? What would you have to do to get them? Will it be worth it in the long run? Will it help you to accomplish your goals?

It's a good salary and can definitely pay the bills. However, it won't be enough for a mortgage. On the bright side, this can become a lifetime work with potential to earn more. UPS delivery drivers earn between $25,491 - $92,782. You can also use your current salary to pay for college and find a different job with higher pay.

If you want a good salary, you could have a go at internet marketing.

You could have a go at online marketing.

That way you can add in your resume about your experience in marketing to get better jobs while making some sweet cash.

There's a lot of ways to help you make money online, but for beginners I would recommend you to try out CB Passive Income. Its a new product launched by Amazon.com's Best Selling author Patric Chan and its newbie-friendly.

UPS drivers receive more then 20k anyway time is our most precious assest. It is also the only non renewable asset. Every other form of wealth can be replaced but time wasted is gone forever. If you want to drive then take the position for driving experience and obtain your CDL A.

20k you can not live comfortable and save for your retirement.

Time is money. Take life serious due to no do-overs

Best of luck. Take Care

I hate to sound rude, but not really. However, this is a great salary to go to community college and get a degree in something you're interested in. You're 21, you have so much potential! :)

I don't know any UPS drivers personally, but I can imagine many of them enjoy their job and make satisfactory salaries.

If you enjoy the work, GREAT! You could make it a profitable career.

The key to a happy life is options. More money, more options. Less money, fewer options.

Where are you situated? If you are living in a developing nation then this might place you in the wealthy category :)

for owning a house, no. 20,000 isn't bad through considering you don't have a college degree.

Not bad for starting.

so right now my current job i make $12, 000 a year so I'm gonna work for ups driving a truck this is my first real job I'm 21 so I'm just wondering is this a good salary i mean i wanna own my house one day and not live in my small apartment forever .
