Gold is gold but it rarely comes out of the ground as gold the way most people think of it. Nuggets of close to 24k pure are occasionally found, but the majority of gold is tiny amounts embedded in rock, called gold ore. It needs to be extracted and refined to remove anything that is NOT gold from it. Those nuggets were essentially refined by intense heat from volcanoes or the pressure from being buried miles under the surface near earth's molten core, then found their way to the surface.
