Advice on having accounts with multiple brokerage firms?

It does but..having multiple accounts takes some extra work come tax time, keep a spreadsheet. Btw, tradeking sucks. If you are going to trade actively you need to set some realistic goals, develop and write down a trading plan, stick to your stop loss and gain the knowledge and experience about the market you are trading in. Fortunately, there are tons of great books on the subject. Some more obscure resources for you: free online trading education.com -check out the trading videos by Mark Sutton, read "how I made 2,000,000 in the stock market" and "reminisces of a stock operator". Finally, be warned that overtrading will cause you to miss opportunities and increase expenses. If you must daytrade I recommend cy trading group as the easiest, most affordable wayfor active trading. Proceed slowly, get education, set risk parameters and know when to get out. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have an account with share builder and trade king, I like share builder because I can buy "Gamble"penny stocks from their site. Trade king offers a lot of resource's including good company info and charts. But neither site offer international stock trading. I found that option house does offer international trading which I am going to give them a try. I think if you are a serious trader you would want to invest internationally. There a few website that compare's the online brokerages basic features, google it. If you have more then one online account there is a way you can transfer your holding to one account.

I'm new to the stock market world and find the whole thing very interesting. I'm thinking of opening an account with 2 different firms. I want one that offers lots of research and educational tools (maybe TD Ameritrade or Schwab) since I'm still learning, and a discount firm (SogoTrade, TradeKing, or TradeMonster) when I actually start trading. Does this sound reasonable? I have plenty of cash to make any minimum deposits but I'm wary of any hidden fees.
