Investing in individual stocks if you don't know how to read a balance sheet and income statement is like playing poker with knowing what constitutes a good hand. Stock brokers get paid commissions (out of your money) for selling stocks.
It sounds like you better learn a little bit more about investing before you put real money at risk. I suggest you find a no-load mutual fund at T.Rowe Price or Vanguard. A fund that owns a wide variety of stable stocks such as an S&P 500 fund.
