My wife and I put most of our retirement funds in annuities with a guaranteed 5% return. They are 10 year annuities and if the investments make more than 5% on the anniversary date since each annuity was opened then that amount is locked in. If the investments lose money or make less than 5% we still get a 5% gain guaranteed.
It has been very good for us and looks like our money will double in six years if things continue as they have.
I recommend you go to a mutual fund company *no load* such as Fidelity Investments. They have offices in major cities and an excellent website Fidelity.com.
The important thing to achieve is diversification so that all your eggs are not in one basket.
A good no load company will guide you.
Investing in a solid stock with a good dividend atleast 4% is a great investment. Find a solid company with a solid stock and with a dividend over 4 but not too high because then its fishy. High is like 10 and over. Thats one good step to securing your retirement.
Please give me the investment companies that you know are reliable. And, once you are retired, is it best to go with Government bonds mostly? Especially if you need that money to pretty much live on.
