Vanguard total stock market index fund is the right option for you and get yourself a ROTH IRA as well
Best of Luck
You could call up Fidelity, and see if they have anything for less than $2500. Or see what they suggest.
Most funds have a minimum.
Vanguard has a fund that has a 1k minimum:
Vanguard STAR - VGSTX
iShares ETF's are at NO COMMISSION (can't beat free). Call your Fidelity representative (or the broker that answers the phone) and get some info.
Typically Vanguard's ETF's have a lower cost structure. Over time you could make more even after paying the sales commission. Check it out.
Have you looked at ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds)? They work like mutual funds, but you purchase shares in them in the same way you would purchase normal equity shares. The fees tend to be lower and they can be more tax efficient.
Vanguard has an ETF that tracks the S&P500 - the ticker is VOO and you should be able to purchase shares in the ETF through any stock broker.

OR you could simply buy shares of SPY, and "Exchange-Traded Fund" that mirrors the S&P 500

For investing in a mutual fund it say I need a total of 2,500 but I have less than that. Where can I invest in mutual funds instead? I am registered on fidelity.
