Why is ticket scalping even a feasible business?

ligament business keep the cost reasonable, yea there are a few people that will pay super high prices at the last minute, that is who the sclaper goes after. Most people won't pay those prices. It works to a limited market.

Also don't forget to search this on Google.

Look, I have nothing against scalpers. You're buying an asset and taking a risk on betting you can sell it sometime down the road for a higher price. As far as I'm concerned a concert or sporting ticket is no different than any other type of market speculation.

I'm wondering how these businesses that are set put on these shows so woefully miss the market rate of the offering they sell. If the Chicago Bears, Boston Red Sox, Justin Bieber, and whoever sell out every single game, you would think they'd realize they could jack up prices and make more money, yet there are hundreds of ticket brokers that can actually make a living off of the difference between the Ticketmaster's price and the price people are willing to pay.

I suppose I can see in sports that maybe a speculator buys in at the beginning of the season on the guess that a team is going to go well, therefore more people will want to see them and the market shifts over time. But concerts and other types of shows (I would think) are rather static.

Maybe the explanation is so simple I'm overthinking it, but any thoughts are appreciated.
