3D printing is a rising technology. Prior to 2015 may be difficult. Even I'm looking at at least a 1-2 year or more horizon before it actually results in gains.
i took bets on VJET and XONE, not because I believe they'll excel beyond the other more bigger 3D companies, but because of the fact that industry leaders often pull the lesser companies up.
VJET and XONE are cheaper, but, once the other leaders gain market share, the 3D printing industry as a whole will improve, so I believe I can earn quite a bit off of that rise prior to earnings releases. But that's just speculation.
In my opinion, I'd say to just stick to DDD. You might just earn back the same amount if you dumped the shares and went for SSYS, so you might as well save yourself the trouble, and not bother.
Update: I would also like to add that, by investing in the smaller 3D printing companies, the chance of them being acquired later on is very high. With SSYS and DDD's acquisition strategies, they may end up picking up companies like XONE, which are progressing reasonably well.
I bought DDD at $75, so approximately 23% loss on the investment so far. I keep hearing people on the internet saying that SSYS is cheaper than DDD, and is potentially more profitable than DDD. I wish to recoup my 23% by the end of the year.
Would I have better odds if I sold all my DDD shares and use the proceedings to purchase SSYS?
